We’ve recently shifted Kiefer’s learning so that every day we are concentrating on independent life skills, as we know these will be especially important for him in the future.
Over the last few weeks, Kiefer has been practising real-world tasks every day, especially around money and shopping. He has been choosing and scanning his own items at the supermarket, paying at the till or self-checkout, waiting for his change, and collecting his receipt. This gives him meaningful practice with handling money and following a full transaction from start to finish. We have also visited the post office regularly so he can help send parcels, which fits perfectly with his current interest in posting packages inspired by one of his favourite programmes.

Alongside these new independent skills, we are keeping a balance with plenty of physical activity. Kiefer still goes out on the field most days for free running football and racing, sometimes twice a day, which gives him space to move, explore, and enjoy the better weather now that spring has arrived. This mix of practical community skills and outdoor movement is helping Kiefer grow in confidence, independence, and happiness in his daily life.
