Building Words and Building the Trampoline

This morning Kiefer and I turned tidying, language, counting, and building into one long learning session at home. Recording it here on kiederansonart.xyz so we remember how much daily life can teach.

First, Kiefer helped tidy the play area to make room. He put his jigsaws and animal figures away in the right drawers, matching each thing to its place. This simple routine helps with daily living skills and knowing where things belong.

With the space clear, we practised spatial and positional words using real objects. Kiefer followed instructions like under, over, on top, underneath, behind, in front, between, next to, and inside. He managed all these tasks, even though all the moving got him quite giddy and a little disoriented. It’s a lot to process and remember, but he did it all!

Kiefer’s language skills are coming on so well.

Next up: building the trampoline. Kiefer’s job is to screw on the legs and also put the tiny nuts onto the handle frame bolts (they’re about M4 size). He threads each nut on and used correct turning direction each time. This is careful work and gives him a chance to use his grip and coordination.

We did counting at the same time—how many legs and nuts had been done, and how many still left to go. He likes to know the numbers and it gives every step a bit of structure and anticipation for the end.

At last, the trampoline was ready and Kiefer got his reward: bouncing. It’s great movement and sensory input for him (and fun after all that focus). By the end, he had tidied up, followed instructions, built and counted, and got to bounce—all skills tucked into an ordinary morning.

After excercise, it was Cheshire cheese toasties for lunch……..and a bit of puzzle sorting!
